I have some comment.

1) ver 8.2.0.399 was old version. Current version is 9.0.2.107
2) Retrospect server engine 9.0.2 works fine with Snow Leopard and Lion. BUT Retrospect client 9.x have problem with Snow Leopard.
Backup is finished no problem. However, after backup, 2 or 3days later, Retrospect client eat a full CPU power suddenly, I cannot shutdown the client Mac. If I remove the R-client after backup, I don't have any problem.
3) I try to use the R-client with Lion, I don't fined any problem dureing 2-3 weeks.

No problems so far with the Client control app.
Not running the server engine on Lion
