Your zen garden works but trying to play a level does not. It will start one but then it will freeze up. Why is this?

I tried to play Plants Vs Zombies: GOTY Edition this morning and I was able to launch the game easily and use the Zen Garden but as soon as i started to play a level and plant then the game froze up and would have to force quit.

Steam have updated Plants Vs Zombies this morning and now works flawlessly

I am not doubting that this works but I would like to point out that getting the new version has proven to be very challenging since we bought PVZ at a local Target, not through Steam, PopCap.com, or the App Store (if it is there).
