it took me a
sudo chmod go+rw /dev/bp*
to bring Wireshark back to life…

Removed old version of Wireshark
Installed XQuartz-2.7.2
Reboot
Installed latest version of Wireshark 1.8.1 Intel 64
Everything working!

"App uses X11" does not imply "app doesn't work on Lion":
