No updates to FreeHand have been made for over four years, and Adobe has no plans to initiate development to add new features or to support Intel-based Macs and Windows Vista.
Virtualization is actually a workaround.

I nearly always use Illustrator these days, but it's so nice to be able to open FreeHand on my work computer when I have a project that will be easier to create using it. I have it on an older computer but would so appreciate if Adobe would make sure it will work in Lion. This is the only reason I haven't updated to Lion. I am grateful to Adobe, the programs I use on a daily basis are wonderful and I am able to accomplish things I wouldn't have dreamed of doing 10 years ago in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. It was so nice to see there was a workspace called "Like FreeHand" added to Illustrator. That said, FreeHand is better for doing some things, and the results of the projects I do using Illustrator are not the same.

We suppose that FreeHand will not run. Since Intel native OS X it depends on Rosetta (PPC emulator). In Lion so far it seems there will be no Rosetta.

it works fine in SL… I wish they would turn it lose or update it… This is the second time they have tried to kill Illustrator's sole competitor. If it wasn't for Freehand Illustrator would still have the version 88 feature set.

Freehand works great on all Systems including Snow Leopard. I work with it nearly daily in my agency. That should clear this point.
Until no-one confirms that he has tried to install it on Lion and it really lacks Rosetta or Freehand really won't work i would not tell people that it doesn't work.
I'm also convinced, that it will not work, but i still hope that Apple may give us a last-minute surprise. :-)

I listened some thirdy-part rosetta's emulator will be released soon. If someone knows about it can post it here? I think should be the last chance for FH. For now I will not install LIONS. SL runs perfectly.

it only works – quite well – under Rosetta, i.e. in Snow Leopard and below.
