1/6/2013: also crash on version 1.50, but seem less than previous(1.42)

19/11/2012: Crashes after 15-30 minutes of the opening game. About what think EA?

31/07/2012: Doesn't work at all. I bought this game today, and my Macbook Pro can't find the drivers and etc. Crappy. Got the latest Macupdate too.

27/07/2012: Sims3 works perfectly fine on OS X Mountain Lion.

10/03/2012: Sims3 crashes on Mountain Lion when trying to create a new character.

15/12/2011: Sims3 continues to have known graphics issues with the integrated Intel chips on 2011 MacBook Air models.

12/12/2011: Sims3 should be installed in the main partition, if not, if user folder is in some other partition, the game will crash. So if you have several partitions just create a new user account in the main one and install Sims3.

17/11/2011 Works fine in most 2010 and 2011 Mac models.

29/1/2012 corrected the status for this. If it works on some Macs in Lion, it should be "some problems" It was last marked Doesn't work. Please be careful what status you put on it.

5/5/2012 Works great on 10.7.3, 15" MacBook Pro mid. 2010

I think EA should take care about this partitioning situation because I don't want to install the game in another user account and I need to have my main user active and separated through partitions :D

It does work on 10.8 DP4

I downloaded Lion on the App Store and my game worked for the first week, then it keeps telling me Disc Authorization failure. I tried without the Custom Content and it stills tell me that. What can I do? It's kind of frustating not being able to play a game that I paid for. The game used to work fine with Snow Leopard.

I have Lion 10.8.1
MacBook 13' 2010 (I think)

Thank you

I had the exact same thing happen to me. It is most frustrating. Have removed game and reinstalling to see if it will work. Have not been using it to join the Internet.

take a look at the name ….. it's Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner, not Lion Cache Cleaner ….

[ Rolandius]RolandiusRolandius 24 Mar 2011 05:04

It could be used as a placeholder until Lion Cache Cleaner comes out.

You have to go to Apple Website to find it.

My copy of the Sims 3 freezes randomly, and this didn't happen in Snow Leopard. Any ideas? My hardware is perfectly capable of running it, and this is from a clean install.

If you need a paid 3rd party utility to "fix" an application or conduct troubleshooting steps for permissions, etc, it no longer can be listed as "compatible" but listed as some problems exist.

For me, I can get to the initial game launch screen but cannot proceed beyond that. Running Sims 3 with all of the expansion packs on a MacBook Air 11".

[ Jack]JackAnonymous 16 Jul 2011 22:30

James,

Can you tell us where this 3rd-party fix is?

[ James]JamesAnonymous 17 Jul 2011 04:26

Referring to the cache cleaner comments. FWIW - it doesn't run on my mac and I am not willing to buy a 30$ tool that MIGHT work….

i have the EXACT same problem as Luke. The game boots up, but before i can really start playing the game (i.e. move the person) the game just freezes. sounds and the mouse still work though. os x lion.

[ Jack]JackAnonymous 20 Jul 2011 19:37

Same as Stephen and Luke. Mine will freeze up occasionally when completing a floor plan.

[ Blue]BlueAnonymous 20 Jul 2011 22:08

I'm not having any problems at all. Played today for about 4 hours in total on two separate occasions. Game boots fine in about 3 minutes. I've built a house and played my Sim, visited venues around town, completed opportunities, all fine. I have all EPs and SPs to date and did not reinstall the game after updating to Lion. There are known glitches with the game which EA have not yet patched but they are affecting all users - Mac and Windows.

Someone else had commented on here earlier today that they were managing to play ok too with the GM of Lion. Their comment seems to have deleted - why?

[ Me]MeAnonymous 20 Jul 2011 22:09

I can't understand all the problems you are getting, I have installed Lion and running since Developer Preview 1! I've had no problems with the game running, playing floor plans, moving, no problems whatsoever.

Quite potentially CC and Mods which always fuck up the Sims on a MAC!

[ HI]HIAnonymous 21 Jul 2011 05:38

I have no CC or Mods, and my game loads incredibly fast, to then freeze within 30 seconds of playing a family.
Does anyone have any solutions? This is so frustrating.

I've played The Sims 3 on Lion Beta 1 and 2 without any problems, but when I tried it on Beta 3, the game did freeze after a few seconds, same thing happened on GM of Lion. Now I bought Lion trough App Store and the game still freezes.

I have all the expansion packs.
I've also tried The Sims Medieval and the same freeze there..

I get an "Unknown error occurred" when I installed The Sims 3 on a fresh install of Lion. In fact I've had this on Snow Leopard as well.

This game is just typical of EA. They make a crappy half hearted game that people want because they love the series and not support it well over time.

At least I can play Civilisation.

BluebellBluebellAnonymous 25 Jul 2011 13:23

The problem with Lion and The Sims 3 is related to two graphics cards - the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M and the NVIDIA GeForce 320M. EA are aware of the problem, as confirmed here:

http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/15/411234.page#5868273

For those with both integrated and dedicated graphics cards, switch to the dedicated (Higher Performance) card and you should be able to play.

I WANT IT TO WORK, AND I WANT IT TO WORK NOW!!!!!!!!!! Not in two years, not when those monkeybutt's decide to fix it! NOW or i'm boycotting ea! :/

The original install for sims 3 runs fine. I had to do a re-install of the package that came with the game. Don't do any updates and you'll be able to play the basic game (this is a temporary fix and hopefully EA will release a patch). When I'm playing the sims 3 I make sure that photoshop and other apps are closed. This keeps my computer from freezing.

The first version of the game installed off of retail DVD works fine in Lion. Its when you update after it becomes screwed up. I think the Cider wrapper was updated and thats causing problems in Lion with the Geforce cards (I'm using a late '09 mini with the 9400). I'm going to try taking the game files out of Program Files and get the old wrapper off the DVD installation.

There was a patch released today: http://www.thesims3.com/game/patches/800586636

Tested this on 13inch macbook pro with these specs and works:

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
250 GB Hard Drive, 8x DVD/CD SuperDrive, 4GB DDR3 RAM
13.3 inch LED-backlit display, 1280-by-800 resolution
NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256 MB of shared memory

Confirmed working on late '09 Mac mini with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. Still laughing off how the update came hours after I checked for it meanwhile I went through so many ways to get it to work again :P

[ ]horacsio 14 Sep 2011 22:17

In my case the patch didn't work at all.
Sims3 simply quits unexpectedly! Is this really a graphic card problem?!

Macbook 13 - Late 2009
Processor 2,26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 (11B26)

So the 1.25 doesn't resolve all the Sims3 Vs. Lion issues at all!
Keep trying Apple and EA! Just keep trying!

Thank you all.

Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.6.8

I am experiencing difficulties with my machine when running either Photoshop or The Sims 3. With both apps the game freezes and my screen goes black and I have to force shut down at the power button. (I guess that is not good, but what else it there to do?) I have every Sims 3 game released SP's & EP's. I just got The Sims 3 Pets a week ago and my mac runs the game 15 min and then crashes!

I am so fed up with the machine crashing I am considering to upgrade to OS X Lion. Will that solve my problem I have now? Or will it make it worst by not even running the game? I have a pretty good system and bought myself RAM because I thought that was the problem. I updated EVERYTHING on my Mac, System and apps and the latest patch of The Sims 3.

So, should I buy Lion and hope for the best or is there anything else I can do?
PLEASE HELP!

No problems on my mac at all. Slowdowns occur but the same problem happens on PC. Just have to delete those caches and good to go. Especially true depending how low your RAM is.

I downloaded the latest patch of the Sims 3 Pets and my game crashes after 2 minutes of playing EVERY TIME! Therefore, I am forced to shut down my computer using the power button. Can I fix this any way?

[ Frankiefah]FrankiefahAnonymous 06 Jan 2012 20:52

@Jess. I had the same problem. My game runs smoothly but it keeps lagging every time I change my camera angle. I also experienced the crashes, after playing the game for 15 minutes the screen then blacks out and I have to force shut down with the power button, same as you.

There is a way of fixing it!!!
Just make sure EVERYTHING on your Mac is updated. iTunes, Apps, Software, games, etc. EVERYTHING HAS TO BE UPDATED! or else it won't work. I still experienced a few minutes of lagging in the game but after a few seconds everything plays normally. No blackouts occurred since. You just have to keep an eye out for a new update from Sims because the game is not yet fully compatible with Lion OS X.
Unfortunately that is the main flaw of Mac, you just have to stay updated with EVERYTHING 24/7! I Check for updates everyday now to keep my Mac running smoothly. :-)
