Seems to work on the surface. A very complex program/suite so I've not tested everything. Yet, everything that I have works so far.
Versions and Fullscreen are still not supported

Mathematica for Students 8.0.1 crashes continuously at start

There are 2 "Mathematica" directories that we'll want to rename
"Mathematica-old" These directories should be located in:
/Library

Rename these folder (with Mathematica shutdown) and then try launching the
application again (you don't need to hold down SHIFT+OPTION). You should
be prompted for your license information (if you have it handy, you can
re-enter it, otherwise quit Mathematica and copy the 'mathpass' file from
/Users/<your user name>/Library/Mathematica-old/Licensing to the newly
created /Users/<your user name>/Library/Mathematica/Licensing and then
start Mathematica back up.

SOLVED. Francisco's solution worked for me as well. Note that in Lion your user Library folder is hidden by default. You can either change the name of the Mathematica folder in there by using terminal, or you can unhide your user Library folder by typing the following into a terminal command line:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/

I'm still using MAthematica 7 on Snow Leopard. does anyone know whether M7 is working on Lion? Thanks

Yes Odyseuss, Just did it! :)
You just need to install Java for Lion since apple does not provide a runtime by default.
