Fairmount is a free tool which allows on-the-fly decryption of DVD content for convenient access. Fairmount does not perform the actual decryption, it simply forwards the data to VLC Media Player, which is used for the decryption. Hence, VLC Media Player must be installed for Fairmount to work.

Says to locate VLC. When I do so, it says it is the wrong version and to try again.
I have downloaded the latest VLC and the 32-bit Intel version. Nothing I try works.
The same app worked in Snow Leopard in the past.

Same issue, I am running Lion 10.7.3, the 32 bit VLC with 32 bit Fairmount. The Fairmount application reports: "Fairmount was unable to load the required library from VLC. Perhaps it didn't find it, or found the wrong version. If you do not have VLC installed, please download and install it. If you have VLC 64 bits, please download the 32 bits version and let Fairmount access it." I have made every correction suggested by Fairmount with absolutely no success. Has any one else had this experience, if so what was your solution?

Same issue, exactly. Running Lion. Very strange. I even point it to VLC (the 32-bit one, for God's sake) and it just can't…do…it.
Very sad. But maybe this is part of the demise of VLC, which does suck now. Sorry, but it fell apart and now it sucks. Does this one, Fairmount, thing make it suck? No, when they changed it to 2.0 the suck began. I have 7+ Macs running Leopard, Snow Leopard, and Lion and trust me, apparently VLC's deal with the devil ran out because it SUCKS now. Very sad really.

The Fairmount website say:
You can simply keep a copy of the previous version of VLC somewhere on your hard drive for Fairmount to use: VLC Media Player 1.1.11. You can keep using VLC 2.x, Fairmount only needs to access a file within the previous version of VLC. VLC 2.0 has removed that file.
I have tried it and it works, thank goodness.

Go and get the libdvdcss.pkg from videolan.org - install it and you're done…!
Now it is not longer important which Version of VLC (v1.x, v2.x) is installed (neither if it is 32 or 64bit).
